Ash Warner

Michael Emmerling

Ash used his first pair of drumsticks, received at the age of 18 months from Sunil De Silva (Australia’s foremost Percussionist), to bang on saucepans and school desks until he was given his first drum kit for Christmas at the age of 11. His drum teacher persuaded him to buy Toto IV for his first album instead of Duran Duran’s RIO and he was hooked on Toto immediately.
Over the years Ash perfected his rudimentary skills marching Moomba parades performing with brass and concert bands. His major formative influences were Pink Floyd, ABBA, TOTO, Stevie Wonder, Duran Duran, Iron Maiden, Rush and many more. Ash has played mostly in pop/rock bands, including a number of original bands, with music ranging from songs dedicated to Sarah
Marie of Big Brother fame to session drummer for various projects, most notably the theme song for the comedy sketch show The Wedge. He also played support slots for Jimmy Barnes and Screaming Jets. Ash is currently playing in Nakatomi Plaza (Die
Hard 80’s) band, Song Of Farnham (John Farnham Tribute) and excitedly HYRDA - The Australian Toto Show.
Bass players often go unnoticed until they stop playing, and Michael embraces that dynamic. Initially drawn to drumming, he soon recognized the bass's pivotal role in music, bridging rhythm and melody. Transitioning from punk to funk and prog rock, influenced by Level 42 and Rush, Michael gained extensive experience across various musical genres in bands across Australia and Europe. His approach prioritizes solidifying the rhythm alongside the drummer, laying the groundwork for others to shine. While a latecomer to appreciating Toto, Michael's immersion in their catalog, starting with "The Seventh
